What do we mean by culture, really?

Essentially, organisational culture is the sum of "how we do things here" (i.e. the behaviours) and "why we do it this way" (i.e. the drivers), with both of these aspects impacting the immediate and long-term success of an organization (i.e. the outcomes)

The drivers are composed of both formal and informal aspects. Formal drivers include strategies, codes of conduct, policies, and procedures that are explicitly stated and help create structure. These are the rules and guidelines that help define expectations for behaviour. Secondly, the informal drivers refer to the collective beliefs, social norms, levels of psychological safety, and dynamics between colleagues and teams. These informal drivers can significantly affect how employees feel about their day-to-day work and how motivated they are to contribute to the organisational goals. The informal drivers are often less tangible than the formal drivers, resulting into their influence being overlooked. BR Insights can provide support in translating these informal drivers to more practical insights and solutions.

It’s important to note that  organisational culture will always stay in motion and is never perfect. However, by being on top of your organisational culture, you can identify and address the behaviours and drivers that are helping the organization succeed and those that may hinder this success or drive a risk. In turn, future issues can be prevented and organisational success encouraged.
